![]() Below is the resulting support response after my back and forth troubleshooting with Papercut. I would suggest really doing a deep dive review of how you want to be able to print and how Papercut handles GCP before switching over. If you were able to harvest the device email address you could theoretically get it to work however, Google does not have any way to export this information. We want to assign printers to chromebooks (devices) and not users, Chromebooks are static within a building, users move every year. as usual, Scholars and Ladies/Gentlemen I appreciate all of your assistance.įor us Papercut is awesome aside from their Google Cloud print which does not work for us. What does everyone think, would you suggest something else?Įdit: wow, thanks for the wonderful responses everyone, it sounds like papercut really is all its made out to be, I was also given some other suggestions to play with. Is it as easy to assign printers as GPO's and GCP? I already its reporting is great. So who is using Papercut, particularly "mobility print", how do you like it, is it as set and rely on as it should be? Which I could deal with if I didn't have to do it whenever it wants aaaand whenever the print server or host server reboots. printers would just go offline in GCP, the only solution I have found is straight deregistration of the service, removing all printers and assignments and redoing it all again. it didn't take long however and we noticed weird printing problems and stability issues. Once it was originally setup in a stable manner things seemed ok, reporting blew but admin was ok with that. Please note that load balanced connections using layer 4 SNAT mode are not source IP transparent, which is not usually an issue when load balancing print servers but should still be considered.ĭetails on configuring a clustered pair can be found on page 30 of our deployment guide, below. We have been trying to use google cloud print for printing for both our staff and student chromebooks. This mode might be preferable if making changes to the real print servers is not possible, although some Windows Registry keys need to be added. ![]() It is also possible to load balance a PaperCut secondary print server using Layer 4 SNAT Mode. This is a straightforward process, and is covered in our deployment guide below (see section 2 of the appendix ‘DR Mode Server Configuration’, page 33). It is necessary to solve “the ARP problem” on the real print servers. This is a very high performance solution that requires little change to your existing infrastructure. Please see the PaperCut Help Center for further details.įor load balancing print servers, the preferred and default load balancer configuration uses Layer 4 DR Mode (Direct Routing, aka DSR / Direct Server Return). To implement a load balancer, you’ll need a working version of PaperCut 20.0 or later. ![]() If an outage does occur, it’s then a process of resolving this before manually restarting the server or PaperCut Application Server service before it can re-enter the rotation as a passive server. At the same time, the Network Load Balancer is used to direct all incoming traffic to the active server and redirect this should a failover happen. PaperCut MF and NG v20.0 include in-app technology to ensure only a single healthy instance is active and communicating with the external database. Automatic Application Server failover allows for two (or more) PaperCut Application Servers to be positioned behind a Network Load Balancer in an active/passive configuration. In v20.0 of PaperCut NG and MF, PaperCut introduced a new Application Server Failover feature, which supports using a Network Load Balancer to provide resiliency. Use to load balance PaperCut for a solution that delivers: Mobility Print also serves as a great alternative to Google Cloud Print following its discontinuation at the end of 2020. With the free Mobility Print add-on, available for NG and MF, managing bring-your-own-device (BYOD) printing has never been easier. Its powerful management solution, PaperCut MF, enables users to reduce their print spend and paper waste, increase security, and enhance document workflows. PaperCut is a leading print management solutions provider. ![]()
